Safely Switching Seats in your Career

 


You take your chances when switching careers. Similar to the game of musical chairs, if one is not careful, when the music stops, there is no seat left!


In today’s fast paced, ever-changing world of work, there is always the possibility of suddenly having to "switch seats” during your career. Let's be honest, life happens to all of us. That is why it is very important to note the lessons learned, the experience gained, and the connections made during your tenure with employers. Often, many job seekers who struggle with career planning find themselves in a position where either A. they are no longer interested in their previous career ambitions or B. their particular industry is declining economically or may there is little room for growth. It may be time to switch careers.


Most people don't just wake up and decide to change careers. Especially after focusing or remaining in a certain field or industry for a long period of time. Let's face it depending on the circumstances, a sudden career change can be a scary thing. Pivoting allows you to safely adjust the necessary skill strengths immediately should there be a sudden turn or change in your career plan while still maintaining the overall career goal.

Learning how to pivot will assist you in managing a smooth transition from one career to another.

Create opportunities for yourself by creating career objectives that will better direct your pathway. So, don't be afraid to switch seats, or leave your comfort zone. There is always room in the job market for new ideas and creative thinkers. Remember what you bring to the table and how it differs from others. The truth is, there will always be competition. It is what makes you unique, that sets you apart!
